Amulets were intended to guard their owners' families and property from natural disasters, spells, and evil spirits.  Some were used to heal sickness and cure infertility; others were meant to shield the traveler from peril, to promote success and bounty, and even to secure the affection of friends and lovers.

Heart-shaped Silver Amulet-pendant. Israel. Early 20th Century


Size: 0.7" X 0.8" / 1.7 X 2.1 cm

Inscribed in Hebrew on the obverse of this amuletic pendant is the world "Shaddai", the Almighty amidst a floral design. On the reverse are the opening words of the verses written in the phylacteries and mezuzot: "Hear O Israel the Lord our God the Lord is One"  (Deuteronomy 6:4-9).

 

Curative Amulet  Persia 18th-19th Century


Size: 0.6" X 0.6" / 1.4 X 1.5 cm

This amulet is designed to promote the healing of the soul and the body of its owner. The Hebrew inscription consists of the 22-Letters Name, which is said to be equivalent to the 22 first letters of the Priestly Blessing.

Seal of Ma'adana 7th Century BCE


Size of seal: 0.9" X 0.6" / 2.2 X 1.6 cm 

Based on an exceptionally interesting and beautifully executed seal of brown jasper, it is scaraboid in shape and perforated length-wise, from the Israelite period II 7th century B.C.E.  A lyre is carved on the upper part of its face above the inscription in ancient Hebrew script: “[Belonging] to Ma’adana, the King’s daughter”.

The lyre may be regarded as the musical instrument closest to the Kinnor of David or to that played in the Temple in Jerusalem

Star of David Silver Amulet - Pendant


Diameter: 1" / 2.5 cm

This amulet is in the shape of the six-pointed 'Star of David'. In the center is the Hebrew inscription 'El Shaddai'- The Lord The Almighty. Each point of the star bears a Hebrew letter, which together form the Hebrew words "Magen David" (Shield of David).

The power of the amulet lays in the names and formulas of the Divine Name inscribed on them.
